25. Market Day

Ever have the urge to buy your unmentionables in full view of your friends and neighbors? Going bathing suit shopping not difficult enough? Then move to Italy, where nearly every town has its weekly market, with outdoor vendors selling everything from shoes to curtains to men’s suits.

We enjoy market day so much that Ben and I navigated the train (with lots of assistance from locals, including a sweet Goth young man wearing a Marilyn Manson t-shirt) to Altamura, the next town over, to experience theirs. We checked out 80-90 vendors and then threw in the towel in exhaustion. But not before buying a linen shirt (Ben), a bowl and a set of espresso spoons. In my experience, we’ll treasure them as mementos of this trip.
